Breaktime Bible Study: The Place of Desperation

The Place of Desperation

You have shown your people desperate times; you have given us wine that makes us stagger. Psalm 60:3

It's been said you have to hit rock bottom before you can genuinely be prepared for the next step up. Often we have to get to the lowest place before we become desperate enough to ask for help. We come to the site of desperation as a gift, as it could be the greatest gift is humility. Becoming desperate isn't failing unless we let it take over us.

We could choose to sit in the place of desperation and feel sorry for ourselves and let it overtake us. We all know there is no way out of a pity party unless we come to the place of realization; there is a way out. We all need help out, but will we take the opportunity?

“Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. Luke 15:13,14

Need is only a sign of weakness when we do nothing about it. It is time for God to use the place of desperation as a call to return to his fulness. He has more for us as we turn towards God as the prodigal and go home. Don’t allow yourself one more day of sitting in desperation without asking God to show you His way. Pride will keep you in denial of God’s need. Has God shown you a place of despair?
