Breaktime Bible Study: A Picture of God

A Picture of God

But you laugh at them, LORD; you scoff at all those nations. Psalm 59:8

What an exciting picture David has of God in his mind – God is laughing. He imagines God is scoffing at his enemies. What else would God be doing with those who think their evil ways are prevailing? How do you believe God handles those who are corrupt and wicked in their ways?

Do you think God panics when evil seems to be overcoming? Do you imagine God becoming red in his face and planning his next step of vengeance? Or could God possibly use evil actions for his glory or next step in victory?

When Joseph's brothers returned to him after trying to take his life, he replied,

20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. Genesis 50:20

Joseph didn’t allow the evil of others to invade his heart but allowed God to show him the possible good. He didn’t allow vengeance for his brother's actions to put strife between them but forgave them. The picture of God Joseph had is a God great enough to use the gravest of circumstances for his glory.
