Breaktime: Where is Your God?

Where is Your God
My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” Psalm 42:3

David’s sorrow led to his decrease in appetite and an increase of weeping. It is not unusual for a despairing person to lose their physical hunger. David seems to be shut out from the entrance of the temple of God, which was causing him despair. His enemies even mocked him, asking him why His living God isn’t coming to his rescue.

We all have been in places of sorrow, and we may even be there right now. The site of sadness often is filled with unmet expectations, so disappointment creeps in, and we begin the grieving process. To allow the heart cleansing; God gives us tears.

Even though it may feel like God has disappeared, He is with us. Others may even mock us and not understand why we are still holding onto God. The mocking can lead to even more profound despair, but God is there, even in tears, in the mocking and all of life. Our role is to stay in unity with God and get out of the way. God can give us the strength to accept the tears of life and turn them into songs of deliverance.
