Guiding Light (No, not the soap opera!)

September is here, and each passing day brings us closer to the end of summer and the start of fall. I’m one of those people that really starts to struggle with my mood this time of year as the days get shorter and the mornings are darker. I love the changing colors and the cooler temperatures, but boy I sure do miss the light!

When it comes to the light of Jesus Christ, the time of year doesn’t really matter does it? Our hearts long to experience his loving presence as his glorious light shines on us, especially during those times when it feels as though our world has been plunged into darkness. Sometimes it feels as thought it’s been dark for so long we wonder if we’ll ever see the light again.

My devotional for today comes from Our Daily Bread and is titled “Guiding Light.” The author starts with a story about a trip to a very dark restaurant - so dark that people had to use their smartphones just to see what they were eating! Finally someone asked a waiter if they could turn on a light, and the room erupted into applause as her friend’s husband turned off his phone and said, ““Let there be light! Now, let’s eat!

Sometimes a little light makes all the difference! The author of today’s devotional said this:

Light expresses God’s great love for us. His light points us to Jesus, “the light of the world” (John 8:12), who guides us from the gloom of sin. Walking in His light, we find the bright path to a life that glorifies the Son. He is the world’s brightest gift. As He shines, may we walk His way.
