Breaktime: Push Back
Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes. Psalm 44:5
The Psalmist recognized the enemies were approaching him, and he knew the enemy was close at hand, but he also realized it was God who could push back the enemies. The enemies were trampled on because of the name of God. The Psalmist knew the victory he was living in is all due to the name of the Lord. Living in union with God filled the Psalmist with courage.
We all have enemies of some name following us around trying to overcome us. It could be the enemy of unbelief that fills our heart with distrust. The truth promises us: What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us,who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? Romans 8:31,32
When the enemy brings his despairing untruths to us, our response should be as simple as God is for us. The enemy was pushed back on the cross, and the victory belongs to Jesus. We now get to live in this unity with Jesus, and He is the One who does the push back while we walk in victory. When we are in a weak place, that is the same place where God is strong. Relying on His presence can give us the courage to walk through the trials, even with joy.
