Breaktime: Return to Hope

Return to Hope

Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me?

Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. Psalm 43:5

David is again returning to the same question, why my soul. But it seems David realizes the only way out of his disturbing place of the heart is hope. Hope is the ladder he climbs to get out of his state of misfortune. He at this point has probably tried many ladders but only found hope in God to lift him out of his downcast state. Praise is what gave him the strength to put his hope in God.

Often we have to go through some troubled waters to realize God is the soul's hope. We may try to find other resolves only to be left hopeless. Hope grows as we cast our faith on the mountain of promises God has placed before us. It is a matter of putting our confidence in what God is saying, which changes everything. Praise helps us realize the doubt, which can arise when we put our hope in God. Praise and hope are companions to keep us from dark places.

Now we all enter times of discouragement often following a disappointment with others or even God. It could be we are in a tough situation of life, job, or our marriage that is holding us down. It is time for a release, search for a verse of hope which will lift you up. There are many dawns of hope-filled passages just waiting for us to receive and be set free.
