Breaktime: Waiting Patiently
I waited patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1
David learned the secret of waiting was patiently; the answer for his wait was knowing God heard his cry. He knew the blessing of having God turn towards him and hearing his prayer. He didn’t resort to stepping ahead of God but waited, because He knew God loved him and was listening to him. His relationship with God was solid and he didn’t have to worry, wondering if God could hear him, he trusted.
Hmm, isn’t it challenging to wait on God? When waiting on God, there are many temptations which try to entice us. These invitations may look like the way out instead of waiting on God. It can grow intolerable to our flesh, waiting on God, and may even cause stress symptoms. Of course, the way to wait is patiently, but trying to be patient can cause further anxiety.
However, the answer is not working but allowing the Spirit to produce patience in us. It is God’s gift to us as we wait, and it is in the pause which we receive this fruit. Remaining in God produces the fruit of patience instead of enduring in worry as we wait. We can rest assured, when we pray and turn towards God He is listening.
