Breaktime: Living in Awe

Living in Awe
Many, Lord my God, are the wonders you have done, the things you planned for us. None can compare with you; were I to speak and tell of your deeds, they would be too many to declare. Psalm 40:5

What or who can compare to what the Lord has done? The Psalmist recognizes nothing can compare even though there may be many things competing. He knew if he began to speak of the deeds of God how could he ever stop. This may be why David didn’t need to shout out his name because he knew God to be greater.

We can get caught up in life looking at our deeds and wonder if anyone ever notices. We can soon get infatuated with our world and forget there is something and someone far greater than us. This is where David found himself in this passage. Practicing the presence of God stops us in our ways to soon realize there is something greater going on than us.

Stop for a moment and see if we can count the things God has done around us. All too often, we get to busy in life to see or recall what God is doing around us. We need to stop long enough each day to call attention to what God is doing. This will help us grow in daily awareness of His presence. Growing in a relationship means we can recall what He is doing and be in awe of what we see.
