Breaktime: Being Hated

Many have become my enemies without cause; those who hate me without reason are numerous. Psalm 38:19

David now admits he has enemies galore and his haters are numerous, but they hate him without cause. David doesn’t believe he gave them a reason for their response in his life. He doesn’t allow their hate to own his response, nor allow their attitude towards him to change the way he does life. He knew God was on his side and his confidence rested with Him.

We all could learn a few things from David’s response in this passage. Even though he could hear the hate, he didn’t participate with it. Hate is a strong accusation against anyone and if we allow ourselves to be opened to its fury, it will take us over. Often in a world of hate, it can become a force to be reckoned with especially if we are the target.

Remember during this season who is on our side. We have God who is standing with us and he is not asking us to participate with the lowliness of hate. Even if no one is standing with us we are never alone, we have God. He can see all and knows firsthand what it means to be hated. God is where we have the victory, not in a counterattack against the enemy. He has already defeated the enemy and now we stand in victory.
