Out From the Ashes
Out from the Ashes
I am bowed down and brought very low; all day long I go about mourning. Psalm 38:6
David was brought to a place where his heart was overcome with grief as his sin made its way to the overwhelming power of mourning. When David sinned, he felt so sorry his only expression was mourning. Humility allowed him to see his wrong through the light of God’s goodness. Jesus said it this way;
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Matthew 5:4
Jesus taught us to mourn over our sin which means we accept the consequences. We stop the blame game and begin to take responsibility for our actions. This is the place David found himself, feeling sorry over the wrong he had done and his feelings left him mourning over his every sin. When we deny its existence is where we get in trouble.
Instead of sitting around in sackcloth and ashes, we now have a Savior as we acknowledge our sin. Confessing our sin is the first step to the place of freedom. Jesus paid it all and now we walk knowing we are forgiven. Many times throughout Scripture, Jesus would forgive and then say now go and sin no more. Come out from the ashes and into forgiveness.
