Breaktime: Living in the Promises

“The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.” Psalm 37:29

David lived and counted on the promises of God as he built his life according to what he knew God promised to do. He promised the land of Israel and a physical dwelling place, and David trusted God so much even in his trials that he ran to the promises of God. This could be another reason he was known as a man after God’s own heart.

There are more than 3,000 promises in the Bible and each day we can be filled with their claim. Promises are what God has said will come and what has been and we, as His children, get to walk in them each day. We can walk in what God has said but often, there is a waiting period and it's here where faith becomes tested. When the promise doesn’t come in our timing, we may begin to take matters into our own hands. We may grow weary and need answers quickly and waiting on God becomes a burden.

However, this is exactly the place faith begins to mature: in the waiting. David waited in the promises trusting in the heart of God. He knew God’s character so well he placed his hope in what God had promised. Don’t give up while waiting because at just the right time, God’s promise comes to the rescue.

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary, and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah 40:31
