The Blessing Is Coming

Bev and I were chatting this morning about how disheartening it can be to work hard at a goal and see real, steady progress, only to see those gains seemingly vanish into thin air. I think it goes without saying we all enjoy seeing the fruits of our labors and feeling like the effort was worth the time and treasure invested. Unfortunately life doesn’t always go the way we’d like - and in those moments it’s easy to feel like throwing in the towel and giving up.

Our walk with Jesus is a lifelong journey; it’s tempting to think at times that we’ve “arrived,” but in reality the work of sanctification - becoming more like Jesus - continues until that day we actually go to meet Jesus. That’s the topic of my devotional today from Our Daily Bread titled “The Blessing Is Coming.” Sometimes we can see very clearly the fruits of our labors, and other times… well I guess those other times is when faith comes in. Galatians 6:9 says:

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Paul was flesh and blood just like us; I’m sure there must have been times when he looked at what he was doing and wondered, “Ok God - you sent me here but it seems like nothing is happening!” His words in Galatians 6:9 are a spiritual shot in the arm; “Brothers and sisters, don’t get discouraged in your walk with Jesus, and keep up your good work because someday you will be rewarded.”

Are you in a season where you just feel spiritual worn out and run down? Do you ever wonder if it’s really worth it all? Don’t give up - the harvest will come!
