Breaktime: A Somber Look at Life
“For like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.” Psalm 37:2
Just before this, David was trying to warn that we do not become envious of the evil but now he is describing their fate. It is somber to look through the eyes of an evil person regardless of their state of prosperity for it will all come to an end and all they have will be left behind. One day, there will be no more time on earth and nothing will be with them in their eternal state expect death.
What a sad state when we consider the greater picture of life. Many times, our envy and jealousy rages over a limited understanding of eternity. For the evil minded their will be no more prosperity and all the pleasures they have experienced here will come to a screeching halt. The satisfaction of this life will not extend to their final destiny.
David used this to console his own understanding of life for the evil. So remember, when tempted to be envious of the power, fame and fortune of the evil person, this is their end. Wealthy or evil people’s money does not follow them to the grave for it is only a temporal pleasure. It is a very superficial life with little or no purpose or meaning and all we may have thought was glory resting on the property of the evil, will soon fade.
