God With Us

I heard a quote last week that has stuck with me; as I marched through the snowy sidewalks on my morning walk I repeated it over and over again in my head - “God isn’t just the light at the end of the tunnel; he’s also the light in the tunnel.” I think the point is clear - God isn’t just a better destination to which we arrive; he’s present with us here an now, in the midst of whatever our circumstances may be. Immanuel - God with us!

As we move into the Advent season, the fact that God is with us - he’s not just an all powerful being up there somewhere, he’s not just a destination we’ll reach someday, but rather he is with us, right here, in this moment, dwelling in us, guiding us, and comforting us with his Spirit, is a wonder to behold. It gives us hope to face the fears of today and the unknowns of tomorrow.

That’s what Max Lucado talks about in his devotional this morning titled “God With Us.” He says “The manger dares us to believe the best is yet to be. I love Christmas because it reminds us how “God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God!”” Hold on to that truth as you start this new week - he is with you!
